A King Almost Accepts Jesus

«Do you think that in such a short time you can persuade me to be a Christian?» Acts 26:28

There was a king named Agrippa. His wife’s name was Bernice. Paul had been taken to this king because his enemies had made up lies about him. The king wanted to know if what he had heard were lies or truths.

The king and the queen were dressed in very fancy clothes. Paul began by saying: “I am very happy, O king, to tell you the story of Jesus. I used to persecute everyone who was friends with Jesus. I arrested them and mistreated them. But Jesus came to talk to me. Then I understood that Jesus wanted to be my friend and I decided to be His friend, too!”

Paul continued talking about Jesus and His great love. He told them how He had come, had died on the cross, then resurrected and now was in Heaven.

Festus, one of the men listening, called Paul crazy. But Paul had even more courage to speak. Then King Agrippa said: “You spoke so well that I almost became a friend of Jesus, too.”

What a shame that the king almost became a friend of Jesus. This means he didn’t accept Jesus. And Paul kept preaching!

Let’s practice!

If someday a friend laughs at you for talking about Jesus, don’t be sad. Pray, saying: “Dear God, help me to tell the story of Jesus, even if someone laughs at me.”
