«If his offering is a burnt sacrifice of the herd, let him offer a male without blemish; he shall offer it of his own free will at the door of the tabernacle of meeting before the Lord.» Leviticus 1:3
A law is something very serious that someone important tells us to do. Disobeying a law can do us a lot of harm. For example, when your mom says to you, “Don’t talk to strangers on the street,” she wants to protect you from harm.
The book of Exodus contains many laws. But there is a special book in the Bible that talks about laws—it contains a very long list of laws!
You already know that Adam and Eve disobeyed one of God’s laws when they ate the forbidden fruit, right? Disobeying God is the most serious thing there is: it’s a sin. The result of sin is death forever.
The people of Israel no longer understood God’s love for them all, and that God hated sin. Therefore, God needed to give them many laws. They needed to understand that lots of the things they did were a serious sin before God.
Let’s practice!
Call your mom and go in front of a mirror. Is your face clean? Or is it dirty? A law is like a mirror: it shows what we are doing wrong.
