«Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.» 1 Timothy 4:12
As a child, Timothy learned to love God. Later, as a young man, he met Jesus and learned to love Him too. He chose to dedicate his life to telling His story.
Paul loved Timothy like a son. As a father, he gave him a lot of advice. He should be very happy because he was very, very valuable to God. Nobody should despise him just because he was young. God would never do that. But he also needed to be well-behaved, kind and respectful with everyone. He should be an example so that others would want to be like him.
You should also never be despised for being a child. God will never do that to you. But you should also be well-behaved, kind and respectful with everyone. What can you do? Be a responsible child, don’t throw tantrums, speak your feelings calmly, make your bed, take your plate to the sink, put your laundry in the hamper, put your shoes and toys away, talk about Jesus, smile.
Timothy grew up to be a preacher of Jesus. May you also be an example, just like Timothy was.
Let’s practice!
What can you do today to be an example?
