Unintentional Sin

«Speak to the children of Israel, saying: ‘If a person sins unintentionally against any of the commandments of the Lord in anything which ought not to be done, and does any of them.’» Leviticus 4:2

Have you ever unintentionally disobeyed your mom or dad? It happens. Sometimes little children still don’t know what they can and cannot do.

Among the people of Israel, there were special offerings for “unintentional sins.”

Even the priest had to take a little calf to the sanctuary to be killed if he sinned. The little animal had to be perfect, without blemish. He would lay his hand on the animal, and then it would be killed. This meant that its sin was being laid on Jesus. The blood of the animal was used in the ritual and signified the blood that Jesus would shed. The flesh of the animal was burned on the sacrificial altar. This also meant that the body of Jesus would be sacrificed.

After the sacrifice, the guilty person was forgiven.

Let’s practice!

What did you do when your mom or dad told you that you had been disobedient? Did you ask for forgive-ness? When you disobey God today, you no longer have to sacrifice a little animal. You can get down on your knees and ask God for forgiveness, and He will forgive you!
