The Consecration

«Then Moses brought Aaron and his sons and washed them with water.» Leviticus 8:6

Aaron was Moses’ brother. God had told Moses that Aaron should be the high priest of the sanctuary and that his sons, Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, should be the priests.

The tasks they would perform were the most important tasks in the sanctuary. They would do things that in Heaven Jesus would be doing. So, Aaron was clothed with a special tunic, belt and priestly robe. He also received a breastplate with precious stones. It also had the Urim and Thummim, stones through which God answered them. The turban with the golden crown was placed on Aaron’s head.

Then Moses anointed the tabernacle with oil, consecrating everything that was there to God. He also put oil on Aaron’s head: this symbolized the presence of God on him.

Aaron’s sons were also clothed with their garments, belts and turbans. They were also consecrated to God.

Let’s practice!

Ask your mom or dad to show you a picture of the high priest ready to work in the sanctuary.
