«Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.» James 1:17
James was the brother of Jesus. He wrote a book that bears his name. He says that everything good that exists and everything perfect comes from God.
Think about the good things that you have. Your family, your friends, your house, your toys, your clothes, your pet. Everything that is good can only come from God because He is the source of good. That’s why James calls Him “Father of lights.” Everything that is good, righteous and pure comes from Him, and everything that is evil comes from our greatest enemy, Satan.
Satan desires to unload on us everything evil that he has stored up in himself. Our God desires to put on us all that is good.
Jesus came to the world to fight Satan’s wickedness and bring us happiness.
In addition to telling us that the Lord is the author of all good, James also says that He doesn’t change. How many times have we disobeyed God? But He continues to love us!
Because we have such a kind and loving God, He deserves our obedience and our love as well.
Let’s practice!
Repeat the verse: “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning” (James 1:17).
