The Day Of Forgiveness

«For on that day the priest shall make atonement for you, to cleanse you.» Leviticus 16:30

Do you remember the tent that God asked to be built? Once a year there was a very important ceremony. It was the day of forgiveness.

Everyone prepared for this day. The high priest had to bathe and put on clothes that were worn only on this day. Then he entered the sanctuary and offered sacrifices for his own sins and those of his family. Then he offered sacrifices for all the people. At the end he would lay all the sins that had been brought into the sanctuary during the year and put them on a goat which was led into the wilderness and released there.

This was done for the people to understand that God forgave all their mistakes. It was as if they were gone!

Today, every time you disobey God, you don’t have to go to the sanctuary and take an animal for the priest to sacrifice. Every time you want to ask for forgiveness, you can kneel and talk to Jesus.

Let’s practice!

Did you do something that made your mom or dad very sad? Did you ask them for forgiveness?
