«Bring the tribe of Levi near, and present them before Aaron the priest, that they may serve him.» Numbers 3:6
Do you remember Jacob, the father of Joseph, who was sold into Egypt? Jacob had Joseph and eleven other sons. Let’s count to twelve! This was the beginning of the twelve tribes or families that formed the people of Israel.
One of these tribes was the tribe of Levi. Moses and Aaron belonged to it.
One day, God told Moses that he should call all the men of the tribe of Levi. They should help Aaron in the work of the sanctuary. They were supposed to be like the pastors and leaders who help in the church.
It was a very special job. There was a lot of work, and everything was to be done with order and reverence.
Some would take care of the covering and curtains. Others would take care of the ark, the table, the candlestick, the altars. And there were those who took care of the frames of the tabernacle and the pillars.
Everything in the sanctuary had someone responsible to take care of it, to repair it and to carry it when it was moved. What a privilege it must have been to be a Levite and to help in the services of the sanctuary, right?
Let’s practice!
Do you go to Sabbath school on Saturdays? Ask the teacher to participate in an activity: collect the offerings, put away the coloring pencils and other objects that the teacher uses, or organize the chairs. You will be a kid Levite.
