A New Leader

«And you shall give some of your authority to him, that all the congregation of the children of Israel may be obedient.» Numbers 27:20

One day, God said to Moses, “I want you to go up to Mount Nebo so that you can see the land that I have promised to give to the people. After that, you will lay down and rest.” Do you know what this rest meant? It was death. For God, the death of people who love Him is like a sleep, because they will be awakened by God one day.

God was asking Moses to look at the promised land, because he would not enter it with the people. Another leader would take his place. His name was Joshua.

Moses was sad to know that he would not enter the new land with the people. God explained to him that this was going to happen because he had struck the rock instead of talking to it. Do you remember this story?

Moses obeyed God and put Joshua as the new leader of the people. But he got to stay a while longer with the people before he “rested.”

Let’s practice!

Ask your mom or dad what they would do if they were called to take the place of Moses.
