«Then you shall appoint cities to be cities of refuge for you.» Numbers 35:11
Before they arrived in Canaan, God directed Moses to set apart some cities of refuge. What would they be used for? It was like this: if someone accidentally hurt another person, he could flee to that city. Once there, the fugitive had to tell what had happened to the men who stood at the city gates; those men were called elders. The elders treated the people very well.
If the elders saw that the fugitive was innocent, he would stay there and be protected. But if he left the city, it would be dangerous for him.
Some fugitives were not innocent, and the elders didn’t allow them to stay there.
Today there are no more such refuge cities, but when we walk with Jesus, He is our greatest protection.
Let’s practice!
Ask your mom to help you find the name of the six cities of refuge that existed in Israel.
