Brave Women

«So the land had rest for forty years.» Judges 5:31

There was a special woman in Israel. Her name was Deborah. God called her to be a judge and a prophetess. She was intelligent, she loved God very much, and the people respected her and wanted her advice. She used to stay under a palm tree, and people would go there to talk to her.

One day, God told Deborah to warn the commander of the army of Israel, Barak, to prepare the army because the enemies would come to fight against him. But God would give the victory.

Deborah gave Barak the message, but he was trembling with fear and said: “I’m only going to war if you go along, Deborah!”

What did Deborah do? She was brave, and she went along! In the war, Deborah had the help of another brave woman, Jael, and they won the war. For the next forty years, no enemy had the courage to attack Israel!

Let’s practice!

Ask your mom what a prophetess is. Then draw the prophetess and judge Deborah.
