The People Wanted A King

«For they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me.» 1 Samuel 8:7

Do you remember the boy Samuel? He grew up and became a prophet in Israel. Everyone respected him very much. For many years he took care of the people. But he grew old.

The people began to realize that the neighboring nations had kings, and they did not. In fact, the king of Israel was God Himself. But the people wanted to imitate the neighboring nations and started asking for a king too!

Samuel became sad. He began to think that the people no longer liked him. But God told him that He was even sadder than Samuel because it was Him whom the people were despising.

And God allowed the people to go after a king. But one day they would understand that asking for a king was not the right thing. Do you know why? They were trusting a man who would charge them taxes to maintain the palace and all the expenses, and who would make many of them and their children servants, instead or trusting in God.

But they wanted a king anyway, and Saul was chosen to be the king.

Let’s practice!
