Samuel’s Advice

«Only fear the Lord, and serve Him in truth with all your heart.» 1 Samuel 12:24

The prophet Samuel became sad when the people asked for a king. But God told him to give the people a king. And He anointed Saul as the king.

Then he called the people together to remind them how much God loved them and that He still expected them to obey Him.

Samuel told them that all the years he had been their leader, he had always done his best. He had never harmed anyone. And the people said: “You have always been a kind man to us! You never did us any harm!”

And Samuel went on to say that neither the new king nor they should forget that God had brought them out of Egypt to set an example to the other nations. If they were faithful to Him, everything would go well. But if they were not faithful, they would not have God’s blessing.

Samuel’s advice is still applicable for all of us today.

Let’s practice!

Have you ever done something that displeased God? And have you ever done something that pleased God?
