God Prefers Obedience

«To obey is better than sacrifice.» 1 Samuel 15:22

It had been two years since Saul had become the king of Israel. Soon he also began to think he was too good and to not follow God’s orders.

He heard that the Philistine enemies were coming against him, and he was afraid! The prophet Samuel had told him to wait seven days to worship God and they would be prepared for battle! God would be with him.

But Saul didn’t have the patience to wait! The seven days still had not passed. The people were impatient and so was the king. So, he decided to make offerings and sacrifices to God himself, even though only the priests could do that.

Then the prophet Samuel came and said: “What is the matter, King Saul! Why didn’t you wait for the time we agreed?”

Saul made excuses. But Samuel said: “No, King Saul, this is wrong! God is happy when we obey! You disobeyed Him! He’s not happy with the sacrifice you made!”

And Saul could do nothing but ask God’s forgiveness and not repeat that mistake.

Let’s practice!

There’s no use in thinking you are too good. You must follow God’s directions no matter what. Can you say the verse by yourself? “To obey is better than sacrifice.” 1 Samuel 15:22
