God Looks at the Heart

«For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart. » 1 Samuel 16:7

Saul, the first king of Israel, disobeyed and disappointed God! God asked Samuel to go to Bethlehem. There, he would show him a boy who would grow up to be a good king.

Samuel obeyed. In Bethlehem, he met Jesse and his first three sons. They were tall, strong, and beautiful! Samuel thought that God would choose one of them. But God said no.

So then, who would it be? Samuel asked if Jesse had any more sons. He told someone to call David, a little shepherd boy who was out in the field.

God told Samuel that David was His chosen one. David had a good heart, played the harp, and loved God.

Sometimes we only see the appearance, but God sees much more: He sees the heart.

Let’s practice!

Have you ever played with a sheep? David took care of sheep. Can you draw a picture of David looking after his sheep?
