Bringing Down A Giant

«But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts.» 1 Samuel 17:45

Once, the Philistines made war against Israel. David’s brothers were on the battlefield. And their father asked him to go see his brothers and take them food.

When David arrived, he saw the army of Israel trembling with fear. A giant named Goliath was laughing at the Israelites and no soldier had the courage to face him.

“I will fight Goliath,” David said. His brothers laughed and told him to go home. But David insisted. King Saul dressed him in his armor, but it was heavy, and David didn’t want to wear it. With the clothes he was wearing, and with his sling and his saddlebag, he went to the stream and picked out five stones.

When he saw the boy, Goliath became angry. David put a stone in the sling, turned it round and round, and threw it with force. The stone hit Goliath in the forehead. He stumbled and fell to the ground.

Without their hero, the Philistines fled in terror and Israel won the battle.

Let’s practice!

Would you be afraid of a man whose height reached the ceiling? David was not afraid because he was God’s friend! Ask Jesus for you to be such a close friend of God that you wouldn’t be afraid of a giant.
