The Consequences Of David’s Sin

«And he threw stones at David and at all the servants of King David.» 2 Samuel 16:6

For more than a year, David tried to hide his sin. After the death of Uriah, he married Bathsheba and thought that everything was resolved. He felt a lot of guilt, but he only really repented when the prophet went to talk to him. And God forgave him.

Every time we disobey God, there are consequences. You see, David thought he was doing things in secret, but his family and his subjects could see that there was something wrong with him. David lost some of the respect of his sons and his people.

Absalom, one of his sons, organized a revolt in the kingdom to take his father’s place. David had to flee the city in a hurry. Some people threw stones at him and cursed him.

There was a war between the soldiers of David and Absalom. In the end David won and was able to return to the palace. But he was never the same. The memories of his sin and the losses he had would always remind him that it’s never worthwhile to sin.
