«Solomon did evil in the sight of the Lord.» 1 Kings 11:6
King Solomon started his reign in a humble and obedient way. But, as time went by, he neglected God’s laws and began to do many wrong things. He took numerous wives and began to worship gods together with them. This made God very disappointed! God told Solomon that a servant would become king in his place.
God also allowed enemy nations to invade the kingdom of Israel.
Do you know why God couldn’t allow King Solomon to do all those things? The king was a model for the people. The people would follow his bad habits and Israel would fail to fulfill God’s purpose of telling the rest of the world about His love.
When he was an old man, Solomon repented for being so disobedient to God and so vain. God forgave him, but he faced the results of his disobedience. The consequences always come.
Let’s practice!
Ask your mom to read with you some poems written by Solomon.
