Elijah Is Taken To Heaven

«Then it happened, as they continued on and talked, that suddenly a chariot of fire appeared with horses of fire and separated the two of them; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.» 2 Kings 2:11

The prophet Elijah had been very obedient to God! He had finished his work. God showed him that Elisha should take his place.

Elijah told Elisha that he needed to go to the Jordan alone, but Elisha said he wouldn’t leave Elijah and followed him. The two walked together, and when they reached the Jordan River, Elijah touched the river with his cloak, and it opened for them both to cross.

Elisha told Elijah that he would like to receive a double portion of his spirit before they said goodbye.

They continued walking, and suddenly a chariot of fire appeared with horses of fire and took Elijah up to Heaven! Elisha saw Elijah’s cloak fall and picked it up.

On the way back to his home, Elisha touched the river with Elijah’s cloak and the river opened. This meant that, just as God had been with Elijah, He would also be with him.

Let’s practice!

Have you ever imagined that one day you will be in Heaven and will meet Elijah? Pray with your mom and dad to be prepared for that very special day.
