The Oil Multiplied

«Go, borrow vessels from everywhere, from all your neighbors—empty vessels; do not gather just a few.» 2 Kings 4:3

During the time of prophet Elisha, a widow came to him. She was desperate! Her husband, a man of God, had died. She had debts to pay and no money. The debt collectors were demanding payment and threatening to take her two children as payment for the debt! What could she do?

Elisha asked her what she had at home. She told him that she only had a little bit of oil. So, the prophet told her to go to the neighborhood and borrow many jars from them. She should fill each one with as much oil as she had.

What do you mean? Her oil was insufficient to fill so many jars. But she obeyed! The oil continued to flow as long as she had empty jars to fill. When she filled the last jar, the oil stopped flowing.

Elisha told her to sell some of it to pay off her debts and then live with the rest.

Let’s practice!

Draw lots of jars filled with olive oil.
