THE GREAT PROMISE

«Then He brought him outside and said, “Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.” And He said to him, “So shall your descendants be.” » Genesis 15: 5

“Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.” That's an almost impossible task, isn't it? There are so many! In the Bible, God made an incredible promise to Abram. He took Abram outside and asked him to look up at the sky and try to count the stars. Then God told Abram that his offspring would be as numerous as the stars in the sky. Wow! This was hard to believe, for Abram and his wife, Sarai, were elderly and had no children yet.

But Abram believed in God. He trusted that God would keep His promise, even if it seemed impossible; after all, our God is the God of the impossible! And you know what happened? God was faithful to His word. Because He is always faithful! Abraham became the father of many nations, impossible to count in number, just like the stars in the sky.

This story teaches us about faith and trust. Sometimes God makes promises to us that seem impossible. But just as Abram trusted God, we can also trust that He will continue to fulfill His promises in our lives.

Take Action

At night, look up at the sky and try to count the stars. As you do so, think of a promise God made in the Bible that is important to you. Then share this promise with your family or friends, and talk about how God is faithful and keeps His promises, just as He did with Abram.
