«Give thanks unto the Lord, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the people.» 1 Chronicles 16: 8
Did you know that even kings would take breaks to give thanks? David, one of the great kings of Israel, had a heart full of gratitude that inspired him to compose several songs. He composed a special psalm to thank God for all the wonders he had done. David knew that giving thanks isn't just saying “thank you” after receiving a gift. It's recognizing all the good that God gives us every day: our health, family, friends, nature, and even the lessons we learn from the challenges that life throws at us.
David sang about how great God is, how He cares for us, and asks us to remember the wonders He has done. This teaches us that we can talk to God not only by asking for help, but also by giving thanks for all the good things. Giving thanks makes our hearts lighter and happier, as David did: “Oh, give thanks to the Lord! Call upon His name; make known His deeds among the peoples! Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him; talk of all His wondrous works! Glory in His holy name; let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the Lord! Seek the Lord and His strength; seek His face evermore! Remember His marvelous works which He has done, his wonders, and the judgments of His mouth...”
