«And the house which I build is great: for great is our God above all gods….But who is able to build him an house, seeing the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain him? who am I then, that I should build him an house, save only to burn sacrifice before him?» 2 Chronicles 2: 5,6
When we think about giving something to someone very special to us, we always want to give the best we have, right? In the Bible, in 2 Chronicles 2:5 and 6, Solomon plans to build a temple for God. He says the temple needs to be great because God is bigger than anything we can imagine. Solomon knew that, even if he did his best, it would still be little compared to God's greatness.
It makes us wonder: How can we give our best to God? We don't need to build temples, but we can offer Him the best of our time, our attention and our love. God does not look at the size of what we offer, but rather at the intention and love with which we do it. Giving our best is a way of thanking God for all that He has done, does and will still do for us.
So, how can I offer God the best today? It can be a more sincere prayer time, a helping hand to a friend, or even a smile for someone in need. Remember, to God, the greatest and best gift is our heart filled with love and gratitude for Him!
Take Action
This week, choose one of your favorite toys, a very special one, and donate it to someone who will treasure it as much as you do. As you do so, remember that by doing our best, we are honoring God with our actions and sharing love and joy.
