«And the Lord turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before.» Job 42: 10
The story of Job is one of the most moving and profound in the Bible. There we see God's restorative power at work. Without a doubt, it is one of the greatest biblical examples of this power. After a long journey of suffering, illness, loss and questioning, Job comes to a point where he humbly acknowledges his limitation in the face of God's greatness. He says: “I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees You. Therefore, I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes.”
It is in this moment of complete surrender and acknowledgment of God's sovereignty that Job experiences divine restoration. Not only does God respond to Job, but He also blesses him even more amazingly than before. Job gets back everything in double: health, riches and even a new family.
In our lives, restoration can come in many forms. It would be like getting better from an illness and going back to playing, getting a place in school again after losing, or seeing your parents happy together after a rough time in their marriage. These “happy endings” show us that, even in the most difficult of times, when it seems that all is lost, God has the power to completely restore our lives.
Take Action
Write a letter to God, stating everything you want to see restored. After writing, say a prayer, surrendering these requests to God.
