THE STRENGTH OF MY HEART

«Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee….My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.» Psalm 73: 25,26

The heart is an amazing part of our body. It beats about 60 to 100 times per minute, pumping blood throughout our body, without us even noticing! But did you know that the heart is also important in another sense? In the Bible, the heart often represents our feelings and our faith. In Psalm 73:26, we read, “My flesh and my heart fail; but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” This means that God is the greatest force in our lives, much more so than the physical strength of our hearts.

God, who created our hearts, also cares for how we feel. It helps us to be strong when we are sad, worried, or afraid. God gives us courage and hope, and it makes us feel good inside. Just as our physical heart keeps our bodies alive, our faith in God gives us the strength to face life's challenges. He is our greatest source of strength and joy, and we can trust Him at all times.

Take Action

With the help of an adult, use a watch or an app to measure your resting heart rate. Then, do a quick physical activity, such as jumping rope or jogging in place, and measure again. See how your heart works to keep you active! As you do this, remember that God is the true strength of your heart, and He wants to keep you spiritually strong every day.
