«The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.» Psalm 111: 10
Did you know that being smart and being wise are different things? Intelligence is something we acquire in school, learning math, science, history and other subjects. But wisdom, is something deeper and more special. Wisdom is knowing what to do with the intelligence we have. It's like using knowledge to make good decisions in life.
Our parents, grandparents and teachers often give us sage advice. They have lived through many things and learned from their experiences. So, when they give us advice, they are sharing their wisdom with us. And that's what wisdom is all about: learning from life's experiences and from the people around us.
Psalm 111:10 tells us that “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; a good understanding have all those who do His commandments.” This means that respecting God and following His teachings is the first step in becoming a truly wise person. When we respect God, we learn to value what is really important in life and to make choices that will bring us happiness and, as we saw in the text: wisdom.
Take Action
Talk to your parents, grandparents, or a trusted adult and ask them to share a story from their lives where wisdom helped them make a good decision. Then consider how you can use this lesson of wisdom in your own life.
