YOUR WORD IN MY HEART

«Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word….With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments….Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.» Psalm 119: 9-11

Have you ever wondered how you can stay pure in a world full of distractions like tablets, cell phones and video games? In Psalm 119, we find a valuable hint: “How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word. With my whole heart I have sought You; oh, let me not wander from Your commandments!” This means that, in order to be pure, we need to have daily contact with God's Word.

Think of the Bible as a guide to the “phases” of life. Just like in a video game, where each level has its challenges, so does life. And to get through these challenges, we need to know the rules and strategies that the Bible teaches us. When we read and understand the Bible, it is as if we keep a part of it in our hearts, just as today's song also teaches: “I have kept your word in my heart, that I may not sin against you.” These teachings become a powerful tool to help us make wise decisions and live in a way that is pleasing to God.

Take Action

Create your own “game of life” based on the Bible. Choose a few verses that help you face daily challenges, such as being kind, honest, or patient. Write them on cards and put them in a visible place in your room. Every time you face a “challenge” during the day, remember one of these verses and use it as your “strategy” to overcome this phase of life. In this way, you will be keeping the Word of God in your heart and preparing yourself for the various phases of life.
