«Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.» Psalm 119: 105
In Bible times, people used oil lamps to light their paths at night! What a contrast to the flashlights and electric lights we have today, isn't it? These ancient lamps, though simple, were essential for dispelling the darkness and showing the way forward. In Psalm 119:105, the Bible is likened to a lamp: “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
Just as a lamp helps light the way in a dark night, God's Word illuminates our lives. It helps us to see clearly and to choose the right path to follow. In a world full of confusion and uncertainty, the Bible is the light that guides us and shows us what is right and what is wrong. It helps us to make wise decisions and to live in a way that is pleasing to God. Not to mention the best part: when we light a lamp, the darkness goes away! If you are in a “dark” moment of life, open the Bible, it also makes the darkness dissipate!
Take Action
Take an evening walk around your home. Turn off the lights and use only a flashlight to guide yourself. As you walk, think about how the Bible is like that lantern, lighting your way and helping you not to stumble.
