«They that sow in tears shall reap in joy….He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.» Psalm 126: 5,6
In agriculture, the seeding process is essential for plant growth. A farmer plants seeds in the land, and after some time, these seeds grow into fruit plants or trees. It's an amazing life cycle! While watercress and radish are known to germinate quickly, in just a few days, plants such as apple and oak can take much longer, even years, to show their first signs of growth.
The law of sowing applies to our lives as well. What we sow, we will reap. Just as a farmer plants his seeds and waits patiently for growth, we too must plant good things to reap good results. If we sow bad things, we will reap bad things. Even though we are sad now, the promise of this verse is that joy will come in the future: “Those who sow in tears shall reap in joy. He who continually goes forth weeping, bearing seed for sowing, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.” Therefore, dear reader, even in difficult moments of disappointment, when we are sad and even want to cry, we must not give up doing good. Trust, for with songs of joy we will reap.
Take Action
Let's do a sowing experiment! Grab a bean, some damp cotton and a clear cup. Place the beans on the cotton inside the cup and watch as they begin to germinate and grow over the next few days. As you take care of your little plant, think about the good things you are planting in your life and how they can grow and bring joy in the future.
