IF THE LORD DOES NOT BUILD THE HOUSE

Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain….It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep. Psalm 127: 1,2

Have you ever seen those movies where super smart thieves, like the ones in the movie “Home Alone,” create crazy plans to break into houses? Many people try to protect their homes with locks, alarms and security cameras. But, did you know that even with all this protection, we still need something more important? Psalm 127:1 and 2 teaches us a great lesson: “Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.” This means that, in addition to taking care of our homes and our things, we need to have God on our side. Without Him, all our efforts may be in vain.

God is far more powerful than any alarm or lock. He takes care of us and our family, even when we are sleeping. “It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows; for so He gives His beloved sleep.” So, remember: in addition to locking the doors and windows, ask God to take care of you and your family. With Him protecting us, we can sleep peacefully!

Take Action

Before going to sleep, gather together and say a prayer, asking God to protect the house and everyone who lives in it. You can even create a special prayer for the night. This activity is a way to remember that true security comes from God and that, with Him protecting us, we can rest in peace.
