«Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.» Proverbs 4: 23
If there's one thing my son doesn't like to do, it's putting his toys away after playing. He likes to leave everything lying around the room. And you? Do you know someone like that? Today's verse says that we need to keep something very important: not just our toys, but our hearts. Proverbs 4:23 teaches us, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” (NIV)
To guard the heart means to protect it and take good care of it. It is not the heart that beats in our chest, but the heart that represents our feelings, thoughts and decisions. We need to be careful about what we let into it, such as the things we see, hear and think. Just as we organize our toys, we must also organize our thoughts and feelings, keeping them pure and positive.
God wants our hearts to be filled with good things, and when we keep our hearts in Him, He will help us make wise choices and live in a way that pleases Him. Remember, what we hold in our heart affects everything in our life!
