«Set me as a seal upon your heart, As a seal upon your arm; For love is as strong as death, Jealousy as cruel as [b]the grave; Its flames are flames of fire, A most vehement flame. Song of Solomon 8: 6»
In ancient times, kings used a special seal to mark their letters and documents. This seal was a way of showing that this message came directly from the king and was authentic. In the book of Song of Solomon, we find a beautiful metaphor that compares love to a seal placed upon our heart! Follow along: “Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm; for love is as strong as death […]. Many waters cannot quench love.”
True love is like that royal seal, leaving a deep and permanent mark on our heart. When we truly love someone, that love becomes an essential part of who we are, just like a seal that can't be removed without leaving a mark.
The love described in these verses is strong, powerful and resilient, capable of facing even life's toughest challenges. It is a love that is not extinguished by time or difficulties, but that remains firm and constant. This kind of love we're talking about today isn't just limited to romantic relationships. It could be the love between friends, family, or even the love we feel for God. When we allow this love to mark our hearts, it transforms us and guides us in all our actions and decisions, showing that we have a King who commands our lives: the King of love, Jesus Christ!
Take Action
Make a love stamp using clay or modeling clay. Shape the clay into a shape that represents love to you and allow the clay to dry until it becomes hard. Once your seal is ready, use it to stamp things you love. Each time you use your seal, remind yourself of the love you have in your life and the importance of sharing that love with others.
