A FORGIVING HEART

«You meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive. » Genesis 50:20

Joseph’s story is full of adventures, but one of the most amazing parts is when he forgives his brothers. Remember how they sold him into slavery? Years later, when Joseph was already statesman of Egypt and his brothers came to ask for food because of the famine, he recognized them and had every right to be angry at them. He could take revenge. But do you know what he did? Joseph did something amazing: he forgave them!

Joseph said to his brothers: “You meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive.” He understood that even in bad situations, God can bring about good things. Joseph chose to forgive and help his brothers and sisters, showing a heart full of kindness, love, and compassion.

Forgiving will never be easy, especially when someone hurts us a lot, especially if it is someone in our family, whom we love and trust so much. But Joseph’s story teaches us that forgiveness can transform lives. When we forgive, we take a weight off our shoulders and as well from the person to whom we offer our forgiveness. With this, life becomes lighter!

Take Action

Place something that floats in a glass of water, such as a small piece of Styrofoam or a small leaf. Now, put a coin on top of it. Notice how it sinks! This shows what happens to us when we do not forgive: we become “heavy,” full of resentment and bitterness. If it is hard to forgive someone, ask the Lord for help. After this experience, try to forgive someone and you will feel lighter, I assure you!
