«“Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord, “That I will raise to David a Branch of righteousness; A King shall reign and prosper, And execute judgment and righteousness in the earth.» Jeremiah 23: 5
Throughout history, we have had kings who, contrary to the common quest for power and wealth, chose to serve their people with justice and love. During the devotionals you heard the story of some, such as David, Solomon, or Josiah. In addition to the biblical figures, we could also mention other kings, such as St. Louis IX of France, known for his devotion to God and the justice with which he ruled his people, or King Alfred the Great of England, who not only defended his kingdom against Viking invaders but also promoted education, justice and Christian law. These kings showed that it is possible to rule with a heart turned toward God, serving the people with love and justice, reflecting Christian teachings in their actions, pointing to something even greater.
These historical examples remind us of Jeremiah's promise of the “Righteous Branch,” fulfilled in Jesus Christ. Jesus did not come as an ordinary king, seeking earthly power, but rather as a servant, offering unconditional love, perfect justice and eternal peace. He demonstrated through his teachings and actions the true meaning of leadership: to serve and not to be served.
He is the true king, who rules with perfect justice and unconditional love. Jesus surpasses all examples of righteous and loving leadership, offering us eternal hope and showing us the way to live in harmony with the principles of God's kingdom.
