«So they took Jeremiah and cast him into the dungeon of Malchiah the king’s son, which was in the court of the prison, and they let Jeremiah down with ropes. And in the dungeon there was no water, but mire. So Jeremiah sank in the mire.» Jeremiah 38: 6
The life of Jeremiah, a prophet called by God to bring difficult messages to the people of Israel, is full of important lessons, as we have seen in recent devotionals. However, in the chapters 37, 38 and 40, we see some of the most intense challenges he faced in being faithful to his mission. Jeremiah was arrested, thrown into a well and rejected by the people he was trying to help. Still, he did not give up on speaking the truth that God had entrusted to him.
One of the greatest lessons we learn from Jeremiah is courage in the face of adversity. He shows us that following the right path is not always easy and can lead us to face great difficulties.
Jeremiah also teaches us about the importance of endurance. Perseverance is about keeping up and not giving up, even when things get tough or when we face obstacles in our way. Despite all the times he was ignored, ridiculed, or even persecuted, he continued to fulfill his mission. It reminds us that we must persevere in our faith and in the tasks God entrusts to us, even when it seems that no one is listening to us or valuing our effort.
