THE LORD'S MERCIES

«Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not….They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.:» Lamentations 3: 22,23

Mercy is a word that means having compassion and kindness towards someone, even when that person doesn't deserve it. It's like when you do something wrong and your parents forgive you, even though you did something they asked you not to do.

In the book of Lamentations, the prophet Jeremiah talks about the mercies of the Lord. He says, “Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. ‘The Lord is my portion,’ says my soul, ‘Therefore I hope in Him!’.” This means that, every day, God gives us a new chance. Even when we make mistakes or do things we shouldn't, God is ready to forgive us and give us a new opportunity to do better.

God's mercies are like a special gift that we receive at every dawn. Imagine opening a gift every day, and within it finding a new opportunity to do good things, learn and grow. That's what God gives us! He loves us so much that each new day He offers us a chance to start over, to correct our mistakes and to live in a way that pleases Him.

Take Action

How about practicing the “week of mercy”? During this week, try to offer forgiveness to people who have wronged you. If someone has hurt you or done something you didn't like, try to forgive and forget, just like God does with us. You can also do something kind to someone who maybe wasn't so nice to you. Remember, showing mercy and forgiving is a way to be like Jesus, who always forgives our mistakes.
