«“Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; therefore hear a word from My mouth, and give them warning from Me:» Ezekiel 3: 17
In today's text, we learn about a very special task given by God to Ezekiel: to be a watchman for the people of Israel. But what does that mean? Being a watchman is like being a city guard, someone who keeps an eye on everything to warn people when danger is approaching. In Ezekiel's case, his mission was to listen to God's messages and warn the people when they were straying from the right path, helping them avoid trouble and stay safe.
God explained to Ezekiel that, if he did not warn people when they were in danger (especially spiritual danger, such as making wrong choices that would lead them away from God), Ezekiel would be responsible for not giving the warning. But if he gave the warning and people didn't listen, then it was their responsibility. This shows how important it is for us to take care of each other by sharing what we know to help people make good choices. In the same way that Ezekiel was called to be a watchman, we also have a mission to warn of Jesus' return, keeping our hearts and communities prepared and attentive.
Take Action
To better understand the mission of a watchman, how about being the watchman of your home or school for a day? Pay attention to the things around you, and if you see someone in need of help or a chance to do something good, go ahead and help or encourage that good deed.
