WHAT DOES GOD THINK OF FALSE PROPHETS AND FAKE NEWS?

«Therefore thus says the Lord God: “Because you have spoken nonsense and envisioned lies, therefore I am indeed against you,” says the Lord God. “My hand will be against the prophets who envision futility and who divine lies; they shall not be in the assembly of My people, nor be written in the record of the house of Israel, nor shall they enter into the land of Israel.» Ezekiel 13:3-9

You have heard of “fake news,” right? It’s those pieces of news that seem true but are not. They are often created to trick people into believing things that are not real. In Ezekiel 13:3-9, God talks about some-thing similar that happened long ago: false prophets. These people said they were talking about being used by God, but in fact, they were telling lies.

God does not like this at all, whether in Bible times or today with “fake news.” He values the truth, and He wants us to do it too. The Bible shows us that the devil is known as the father of lies, while Jesus is called the Truth. Since we are followers of the Truth, we should love it and do everything to avoid spreading fake news. Truth never grows old or goes out of style; it remains firm and strong, building a world of real relationships, of trust, that is, a better world for all of us.

Take Action

Before you believe something you have seen on the internet or heard from someone, act like a detective: find out if it is true. If you are not sure if a story is real, talk to a trusted adult before sharing it with friends. Remember, sharing the truth is a way to be like Jesus, who always leads us on the right path.
