«So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one.» Ezekiel 22: 30
In the old days, there were very important people called breach repairers. During battles or storms, they would rush to fix any holes or loopholes in ships or warships, ensuring that everyone on board was safe and the ship could continue sailing. Just as these repairmen were essential to the survival of the boat, God is looking for people who will do the same today, but in a slightly different way.
God wants to raise up people to repair the “spiritual gaps” in the world. As Adventists, we believe this task applies especially to us. There are very important teachings that some people still don't know or have misunderstood, such as the importance of Sabbath keeping, the promise of Jesus' return, what happens after we die and the meaning of the Sanctuary. These are the gaps we need to repair by sharing what we learn from the Bible.
Our mission as a church is to be like the ships' breach repairers, working together to ensure that everyone has a chance to know the full truth that God has revealed. Not only does this help keep our spiritual “boat” safe and strong, but it also brings us closer to God and to each other, building a solid, end-time community of faith.
Take Action
Think of a “loophole” that you can help repair. Choose a doctrine that is important to us and share it, always with great respect, with a friend or colleague who may not yet understand it. During this week, dedicate yourself to this task. So, at the next sunset service, tell everyone what that breach repairing experience was like!
