WHAT DOES THE LORD ASK OF YOU?

«He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God? » Micah 6: 8

All of us, when we read the Bible, pray, or go to church, expect something from God. We look forward to His blessings, we wait for Him to listen to us. But have you ever wondered what God expects of you? Today's verse, Micah 6:8, answers that question.

God asks of us three things that are theoretically simple but very important: for us to act justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with Him. Acting justly means doing what is right, even when no one is looking. To love mercy is to be kind and forgive others, just as God forgives us and is merciful to us. And to walk humbly with God is to acknowledge that God is God and we are not. That we need Him every day and that, without Him, we are nothing.

These three things may seem easy, but they can be challenging. For example, acting justly may mean standing up for someone who is being treated unfairly. To love mercy can be to forgive someone who has hurt you. And walking humbly with God requires us to put our ego aside and recognize that He is the center of our lives.

Take Action

Try putting one of these three principles into practice each day this week. One day, focus on acting justly, the next on loving mercy and the next on walking humbly with God. At the end of the week, reflect on how these actions have impacted your life and the lives of those around you.
