«Listen now to my voice; I will give you []counsel, and God will be with you: Stand before God for the people, so that you may bring the difficulties to God. » Exodus 18: 19
In today's story, Moses faced a great challenge: he tried to do everything himself. Just imagine, a single man trying to attend to and solve the problems of an entire people! And they were millions! Not only was this exhausting for Moses, but it was also ineffective for the people who needed help.
Then Jethro, Moses' father-in-law, saw how overwhelmed he was and offered wise counsel. He suggested that Moses choose capable, God-fearing, trustworthy men to be leaders over groups of ten, fifty, a hundred and a thousand people. These leaders would help Moses take care of the people by solving the smaller problems, while Moses would focus on the more difficult cases. Not only did this lighten Moses' load, but it also ensured that the people received the attention and care they needed more quickly and effectively.
This episode teaches us an important principle of leadership: delegation. What is delegation? It's like when you have a group assignment in school and you break into smaller parts so each classmate is responsible for a part. Moses learned that he didn't have to do everything alone. By trusting others and sharing responsibility, he was able to lead in a better way. This shows us that, even on big missions, working as a team and trusting others is essential. Each of us has something to contribute, and together, we can achieve amazing things!
