«But when Jesus saw it, He was greatly displeased and said to them, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God.» Mark 10: 14
Jesus teaches us a valuable lesson when He says that we must be like children to enter the Kingdom of God. But what does that really mean? To be like a child is to be dependent, trusting and open to learning. A child depends on its parents for everything: food, shelter, love and guidance. In the same way, we need to learn to depend on God for everything in our lives.
Children also have pure and simple faith. They believe what they are told and trust their parents without question (I hope it's like that in your house too). This unwavering trust is what Jesus wants us to have in God. In addition, children are always ready to learn and grow. They are not afraid to ask questions and are open to new ideas. This is essential for our spiritual growth.
Therefore, being like a child doesn't mean being childish or immature, but rather having pure faith, unshakeable trust in God and, most importantly, depending on God at every moment of your daily life.
Take Action
Spread several toys on the floor of the house and get ready for a “blind” walk with your father (or mother). They will stand at a certain distance, guiding you only with their voice. If you trust them and follow their instructions, you won't get hurt along the way. This activity is a metaphor for our spiritual life: just as you focused on the voice of your earthly parent, try to listen to and obey the voice of our Heavenly Father. Depend on Him and your life will never be the same!
