«For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”» Mark 10: 45
The logic of our world is that if someone is serving someone else, it usually means that the one serving is considered lesser than the one being served. But Jesus showed us something completely different. He, being God, came into our world not to be served, but to serve. This completely changes the way we should see service and what humility actually represents.
Jesus taught us that serving others is one of the greatest acts of love and humility we can perform. He even washed the disciples' feet, a task that was done by servants in those days! He did this to give us an example of what it means to serve and to show that we shouldn't seek positions of power or prestige, but rather opportunities to serve and help others.
Serving is not a sign of weakness, but of strength. It is a privilege and an honor to be able to help others, just as Jesus did. When we serve others, we are showing God's love. We are living true Christianity, which is putting the needs of others above our own.
Take Action
Choose a task that is normally done by someone else in your home and do it yourself. It could be something simple, like setting the table, or cleaning a room. As you do this, remember that you are following the example of Jesus, who came to serve.
