«Then their eyes were opened and they knew Him; and He vanished from their sight.» Luke 24: 31
Imagine two friends walking together to a town called Emmaus, talking about everything that had happened to Jesus. They were sad and confused because Jesus, whom they believed to be the Savior, had died. But as they walked along, a stranger joined them. This stranger was the risen Jesus, but they didn't recognize Him.
Jesus began to explain all the things about Himself in the Scriptures, from Moses to all the prophets. Their hearts burned as Jesus spoke, but they still didn't recognize Him. When they got close to the city, it looked like Jesus was going to continue on His way, but they invited Him to stay with them, as it was getting late. As you will have learned by now, Jesus accepted the invitation.
During the meal, while breaking bread, their eyes finally opened and they recognized Jesus, but He disappeared from their sight. At that moment, they understood everything and ran back to Jerusalem to tell the other disciples that Jesus was alive and that they had been with Him.
This story reminds us that Jesus is often by our side, walking with us and helping us, even if we don't immediately recognize Him. It's important to remember that Jesus is more present in our lives than we can imagine. He has promised to always be with us, and that promise is certain. Even at times when we feel alone or confused, Jesus is there, offering His company, love and guidance. He is ready to reveal Himself to us at all times, showing that His presence is a constant in our lives.
