«I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.» Exodus 20:2
The people of Israel were slaves in Egypt for many, many years. When they were finally free, they began to form a new kingdom. God knew they would need help to live well together, so He gave them the Ten Commandments. These commandments were like ten super important rules written in stone to help the people have a better life in community. Just like traffic laws help prevent accidents, God’s Law helps us to have a better life with fewer “accidents”! Obeying God’s Law, the Ten Commandments, is incredibly good for you!
I bet that in your house there are also several “laws”, such as “don’t leave wet towels on the bed”, “brush your teeth before bed” or “eat vegetables” and a few others. These laws are there to protect us and are for our good. And you know what? Just as our parents are happy when we obey these “laws,” our Heavenly Father is also overjoyed when we obey the Ten Commandments.
Take Action
Create the “law” for a “Yes Day” in your home! On this special day, each member of the family should try to say “yes” to the requests of the others, as long as they are safe and respect values and hygiene, of course. This can include things like helping with homework, playing a game someone chooses, or even trying a new food. This day will be a fun opportunity to learn about cooperation and how to be positive about the laws. Say “yes” to this idea!
