THE CREATOR WHO BECAME MAN

«And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.» John 1: 14

At the beginning of John's Gospel, we find one of the most powerful descriptions of Jesus: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” This verse shows us that Jesus is not just a master, a teacher or a prophet, but He is God in person!

The word ‘Word’ means “word” or “message.” John is telling us that Jesus is God's living message to us. He is the perfect expression of God's love and character. When we look at Jesus, we see who God is and what He is like.

This verse also teaches us that Jesus was with God from the beginning. He didn't begin to exist when He was born as a baby. He has always existed, together with the Father and the Holy Spirit, as part of the Trinity. When Jesus came into this world, He became incarnate, that is, He became flesh. I know, I know, this is something wonderful and mysterious, which shows us how great and incredible our God is: Jesus!

Take Action

For this activity, you'll need two sheets of paper towels, colored pens and a deep dish of water. First, the paper towels. On one of them, draw and paint an image of Jesus. On the other sheet, just trace the same drawing, but don't add any color. Then place both sheets (the uncolored one on top) in the dish of water. Watch as the bottom drawing begins to appear on the top sheet, coloring it in too! This activity symbolizes how Jesus, the Word of God, can transform and color our lives. Just as water makes color appear on paper, Jesus brings color and meaning to our existence.
