«I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”» Acts 20: 35
Living as a disciple of Jesus isn't just about admiring Him from afar, it's about turning every day into a living expression of His love and teachings. In today's text, Paul bids farewell to the leaders of the church in Ephesus and, in this very personal moment, he shares essential characteristics of a true disciple of Jesus, showing through his own life the path we should follow.
1. Serve with humility: Being a disciple means putting others before yourself and serving God and people with a humble heart.
2. Be courageous on the mission: Even knowing the dangers he would face, Paul didn't hesitate to carry out his mission. A disciple of Jesus has the courage to speak the truth of the Gospel, even when it seems difficult or even impossible.
3. Share generously: Paul emphasized the importance of working hard and helping those in need. Being a disciple is also about being generous, sharing what we have with those in need.
4. Watch and care: As a shepherd cares for his flock, Paul warned leaders to watch and care for the people entrusted to them. A disciple watches out not only for himself, but also for others, protecting them from spiritual dangers.
5. Value the community: Paul's farewell is marked by tears and hugs, showing the strong bond between them. Being a disciple means valuing the Christian community, loving and supporting each other like a family. After all, aren't we called “brothers” in the church?
