«Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall….No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.» 1 Corinthians 10:12-13
If there's one thing that's really embarrassing, it's falling down in public. You know when you trip and fall, and it feels like you're in slow motion? Well, there's an expression in today's text that says that those who are standing must be careful not to fall. This means standing firm and confident. But even when we are standing firm, we need to be careful not to fall. In life, we face many temptations and challenges that can cause us to stumble. It's like walking on a path full of stones and roots; if we don't pay attention, we can fall.
In today's text, Paul reminds us that we must always be vigilant and humble. Even if we think we are firm and strong in our faith, we must be careful not to fall into temptation. The good news is that God does not allow us to be tempted beyond what we can bear and always gives us a way out. So always remain vigilant, praying and seeking God to stand firm. And when temptation strikes your heart, you can trust that God will give you the strength to overcome it.
Take Action
To practice being attentive and vigilant, make an obstacle course in your house or yard. Place some objects on the ground to represent temptations and challenges. Try to walk past them without touching them. This will help you to remember that, in life, we always need to be on our guard so that we don't fall prey to temptation.
