«Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort,…who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.» 2 Corinthians 1: 3,4
Think of a situation that makes you sad, like losing a game or having a bad day at school; and someone gives you a hug or says words that make you feel better. That's consolation: helping someone feel less sad and more hopeful! It's knowing that someone needs consolation and doing something about it!
In 2 Corinthians 1:3 to 5, the Bible teaches us that God is the God of all comfort. This means that He is the best at making people feel comforted when they are sad or going through difficult times.
God understands our every feeling and is always around to help. That's one of the reasons Jesus came to earth: to understand us. He understands every difficulty, because He has been through them! Jesus is like a friend who knows exactly what to say or do to make you feel better. And He does this not only with words, but also with the love and affection we feel in our hearts.
And the great thing is that, when God comforts us, He also teaches us how to comfort others. If you see a sad friend, you can share some of the comfort that God has given you. A friendly word, a hug, or even a drawing can be ways of showing consolation.
Take Action
This week, how about being God's helper and bringing comfort to someone? If you see someone sad or in need of help, offer them a smile, a kind word, or a loving gesture. You'll see how a little consolation can make a great day brighter!
