«Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.» 1 Timothy 4: 12
Can only adults be good examples for others? Not at all! The Bible teaches us something quite different. In 1 Timothy 4:12, Paul encourages a young man named Timothy to be an example in various areas, such as in word, behavior, love, faith, and purity. This means that no matter how old we are, we can be an ex-ample to those around us!
But how? Think of being an example like being the captain of a team. A good captain is not only good at playing the sport, but also encourages the team, plays by the rules, and treats everyone with respect. Just like a captain, you can show others what it is like to follow Jesus through your actions and words. When you do this, other people, even adults, can look up to you and learn how to be a better person.
And in order to be a good example you do not need to be perfect, after all, none of us are perfect... Being a role model is not about never making mistakes, it is about how you act when things do not go well. Apologizing, helping others and trying to improve more every day are attitudes of a true example. Remember, if we do all of this, we will be more like the greatest example of all: Jesus!
Take Action
This week, try to be an example to others. It could be something like sharing your toys, speaking kind words, or saying a prayer with a friend. Tomorrow share with your family what that experience was like. You will discover how small actions can make a significant difference and inspire others!
